Mart Ots, PhD, new Director of MMTC

We are pleased to announce that Mart Ots has been appointed as the new Director of Media Management and Transformation Centre (MMTC) from July 1, 2013, succeeding Professor Rolf A. Lundin.

Mart is a well-known figure at MMTC since he was one of the first PhD candidates since its start. After he finished his PhD in 2010 entitled "Understanding value formation - A study of marketing communications practices at the food retailer ICA" he became Assistant Professor at the School of Education and Communication at the University of Jönköping. In that position he has initiated new research projects in the areas of advertising, media policy, and branding, and has worked to develop the strategic communications program.

Mart Ots has a strong network in the Nordic countries in the media area, both academically and in practice. He serves as board member and advisor to academic associations, government offices, as well as private companies.

Based on his consistent work on developing international perspectives on media business issues, we are very pleased that he has accepted the challenge to lead the research centre.

As the Director of a core research centre of JIBS, Mart’s first tasks will be to ensure that the activities of MMTC strengthen the focus areas that lie at the heart of JIBS’ renewed mission - Entrepreneurship, Renewal and Ownership. Other tasks include finding new ways to bring the knowledge gained from research into JIBS’ education and to help increase the impact of JIBS in the broader society.

Backed by continued financial support from the Carl-Olof and Jenz Hamrins Foundation, we are looking with confidence to the new phase to continue to develop MMTC as the world’s premier centre for media business studies.
