Assistive arm chair design

This is a project for and in collaboration with IKEA carried out by the second year industrial design students at Jönköping University between October and December 2017. It concerns the development of an assistive armchair, based on their new collection OMTÄNKSAM and the armchair BJÖRKNÄS. It starts with individual research and ideation, followed by group development of selected concepts. The process is iterative with regular evaluations together with the company. The final results consists of a modular torsion spring-based lifting mechanism suiting for placement in any seat. Furthermore is a tilting chair concept presented together with a lifting concept using a flexing sheet.
