Research

Aluminum material has received increased attention in the automotive industries due to demands for reduced greenhouse gas emission and producing more efficient vehicles. Aluminum materials are widely used both as-cast and wrought material due to their high strength-to weight ratio, high thermal properties, recyclability, and manufacturing cost efficiency However, with several benefits, there are doubts about replacing parts in the industry because fatigue performance in the material, since 90 % of all failures are related to fatigue. The aim of my research is to contribute with knowledge regarding fatigue properties, mainly how the fatigue crack propagates. This knowledge will promote usage of the aluminum material in more critical applications.
