Berits intresse för omhändertagandet av barn i den peri-radiografiska processen har varit utgångspunkten för forskningen som tar både barns perspektiv och ett barnperspektiv.

Avhandlingen med titeln: “Children in the Radiology Department – a study of anxiety, pain, distress and verbal interaction”, bidrar med ny kunskap inom ett relativt outforskat område.  Övergripande syftet har varit att undersöka barns upplevelse av att genomgå en akut undersökning efter en fysisk skada – mer specifikt med avseende på smärta, oro och kommunikationen mellan barn och röntgensjuksköterska.

Videoobservationer, intervjuer, enkäter, själv-skattningar samt barns teckningar har legat till grund för analys med både kvantitativ, kvalitativ och mixed metod. Resultaten visade bland annat att barnen upplevde smärta och oro i samband med undersökning - ofta över nivåer där det rekommenderas att vidare åtgärd vidtas. Ytterligare visade resultaten, att röntgensjuksköterskan anpassar den verbala interaktionen efter barnets ålder och att detta kan vara en anledning att barnen upplever förtroende för röntgensjuksköterskan.

Berit är legitimerad röntgensjuksköterska med klinisk erfarenhet från Radiologiska Kliniken vid Länssjukhuset Ryhov.  Hon arbetar som lektor i radiografi vid avdelningen för naturvetenskap och biomedicin. Här är hon programansvarig för röntgensjuksköterskeprogrammet och undervisar studenter på grund- och avancerad nivå. Berit är aktiv inom forskningsmiljön CHILD och medverkar i olika tvärvetenskapliga forskningsprojekt.
