In general, individuals who are citizens of countries outside of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay application and tuition fees.

There are some exceptions to this general rule. More information>> regarding who is not required to pay fees.

Students with citizenship in a country outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland are required to pay a SEK 900 (approximately EUR 80) application fee. You pay one application fee per admission period. The application fee is non-refundable.

Payment of application fee

The application fee must be paid when the application is submitted in one of three ways:

  • by Visa or MasterCard,
  • proof of payment of the application fee for the same admission period at University Admissions (see instructions in our FAQ Opens in new window.), or
  • by bank transfer. The application must have been submitted with "pre-payment of application fee" checked as you will need your application number when you make a bank transfer.


At Jönköping University, the tuition fee for the entire study programme is divided into instalments like a payment plan. There are the same number of instalments as there are semesters in the study programme. Each instalment must be paid (and reached our bank) before the start of a new semester, even if you need to re-take classes and exams.
The first installment of tuition fee should be paid in full before the application for a residency permit can be processed.

In Sweden, all offers of admission are considered preliminary until the student has paid the first installment of the programme tuition fee. The Swedish Migration Agency will not start to process an application for residence permit for study until the first installment has been received by the university.

 

A 3-year bachelor programme fee is divided into 6 instalments of the tuition fee and a 2-year master programme fee is divided into 4 instalments.

 

If you have paid all instalments but not yet completed the study programme, you can complete the study programme without further payments as long as you meet the requirements set by the Swedish Migration Agency.

The Tuition Fee includes:

  • Tuition (education, examinations, certificates, access to student support)
  • Emergency insurance
  • Student Union Fee

The tuition fees vary depending on the school and programme. The following fees apply for the academic year 2025/2026.

Note that the tuition fees per academic year are paid in two instalments.


Jönköping International Business School

Bachelor's programmes (3 years): SEK 115,000 per academic year.
Master's programmes (2 years): SEK 138,000 per academic year.

Master's programmes (1 year): SEK 140,000 per academic year.
Engineering Management (1 year, 75 credits): SEK 175,000 (of which SEK 77,000 is the first instalment)

 

School of Education and Communication

Bachelor's programmes (3 years): SEK 100,000 per acacemic year (programmes only taught in Swedish).
Master's programmes (1 and 2 years): SEK 120,000 per academic year.


School of Engineering

Bachelor's programmes (3 years): SEK 99,000 per academic year.
Master's programmes (1 and 2 years):
SEK 170,000 per academic year.


School of Health and Welfare

Prosthetics and Orthotics Bachelor's programme (3 years): SEK 160,000 per academic year.

Interventions in Childhood (1 year): SEK 120,000 per academic year. 
Master of Product Development – Specialisation in Assistive Technology (MASTech) for Engineers or for Prosthetists/Orthotists: SEK 140,000 per academic year.

Occupational Therapy Master's programmes (2 years): SEK 120,000 per academic year (web-based, full time).

Occupational Therapy Master's programmes (2 years): SEK 60,000 per academic year (web-based, part time for a total of 4 academic years).

  • Inform your bank that you wish to transfer the sum stated on the invoice.
  • Inform your bank that the payment must be received by Hogskoleservice i Jonkoping by the due date on the invoice.
  • Include your reference number as a remittance message. This is your personal reference number and without this number, we cannot match the payment to your student record, especially if someone else pays your invoice.
  • Note that even if you pay the fee in another currency, we receive the funds in Swedish kronor (SEK), and that you are responsible for paying all fees associated with this transfer.
  • Note that international bank transfers could take up to 2 weeks to clear our account.


Payment from Swedish bank account

If your payment is made from a Swedish bank account, use one of the following:

  • Bankgiro: 411-0649
  • Plusgiro: 1749818-9

Your Reference number (found on your invoice) must be written as a Message on the payment (we do not use OCR number). It can take up to 3 bank days for the payment to show in our account.


We recommend that you choose a payment method that works also if a refund must be made.

If you have been granted, a JU scholarship, the amount awarded will be deducted from the tuition fee invoice accordingly. No money will be dispersed to you directly.

When granted a JU scholarship, information regarding the scholarship is stated on the invoice of the tuition fee. The scholarship value is deducted from the tuition fees.

 

If you have paid the first instalment of the tuition fee in full before being granted a JU scholarship, the amount will be deducted from the second instalment (double deduction).

The due date for the first instalment of the tuition fee is stated on the invoice sent after admission through the direct application at ju.se or through University Admissions. The invoice must have been paid before the Swedish Migration Agency will start to process an application for study permit Opens in new window..


The due dates for the rest of the instalments of the tuition fees for bachelor and master programmes are:

Second: 15 December

Third: 15 June

Fourth: 15 December

Fifth (bachelor): 15 June

Sixth (bachelor): 15 December

Due date = the date when the payment should have arrived in the JU bank account.

Due to international regulations, it is currently not allowed for Swedish universities to conduct monetary transactions with Iran, Russia, and Belarus. You should be aware of this already when you make a payment. Be careful about which account you choose to make the payment from. A refund should be made to the same account as the payment was originally made from.

Therefore, we recommend that you choose a payment method that works also if a refund must be made.

This section describes refund of tuition fee due to cancellation of admission for different reasons. Please note that it is not possible to receive a tuition fee without first notifying Jönköping University of cancellation or withdrawal from study. A refund application will be treated as a cancellation of study (before the start of the studies).


Before starting your studies:

  • If you have submitted your cancellation of admission to the Admissions Office before 31 May (autumn start) or before 30 November (spring start), you are eligible for a full refund with a deduction of an administrative fee of 7,500 SEK and bank/transfer fees. Clause 5.4.1 in the Regulation document.
  • If you have submitted your cancellation of admission to the Admissions Office after 31 May (autumn start) or after 30 November (spring start) but no later than the date of the official start of the programme (mandatory roll call), you are eligible for a refund of 2/3 of the tuition fee paid with a deduction of an administrative fee of 7,500 SEK and bank/transfer fees. Clause 5.4.2 in the Regulation document.


After the start of the studies:

  • Only after you have withdrawn from the programme, can we review an application for refund.
  • Withdrawal from studies does not normally entitle you to a refund.
  • Refund of paid tuition fee after the start of a semester is only possible if you had to drop out for special reasons. Jönköping University decides what constitute special reasons. If there is a special reason, refund is not granted retroactively, which means that the tuition fee corresponding to the weeks you have been studying (participating) is not refundable.
  • If you do not complete sufficient credits to move on to the next semester or year, refund cannot be granted.


Special reasons:

  • Some reasons for cancelling after 31 May could still mean a full refund (except the administrative fee and bank/transfer fees).
  • Jönköping University decides what is an accepted special reason on a case-by-case basis. Note that financial issues or the illness or death of a family member (except a child under 18) is not considered a special reason.
  • Rejection on application for residence permit for study constitutes a special reason and will be reviewed as such (there is always an administrative fee of 7,500 SEK). However, if a student has been participating online through hybrid studies (Pathway) and then receives a rejection, a deduction is made from the refund corresponding to the weeks from the start of the semester until withdrawal from the programme.
  • Not having received a decision from the Migration Agency in time is generally not considered a special reason (a rejection letter is required to show special reason).
  • If your permit application has been withdrawn, it is not a special reason.

Note that documents confirming a special reason should be issued in Swedish or English or officially translated into English. If you received a rejection from the Migration Agency, the decision itself or the email message with your email address clearly stated on it must be submitted.

Pathway programmes are held at Campus Gränna and include a mandatory boarding fee for all students at the Pathway programmes, including students who are not required to pay tuition fees.


The refund policy for the tuition fees for Pathway programmes:

  • The same as for bachelor and master programmes. See the information in the section above (Refund policy for tuition fees).

 

  • If you participate in the offered online studies from 15 January 2024 and you cancel/drop-out after that date due to special reasons, refund is not granted retroactively, which means that the tuition fee corresponding to the weeks you have been participating is not refundable.
    Example: If you have participated in your studies online and then drop out due to rejection from the Migration Agency four weeks after the official start of the semester, tuition fee corresponding to those weeks are not refunded.


The section below describes refund of boarding fee due to cancellation of admission for different reasons. It is not possible to apply for a refund and keep the admission at the same time. A refund application is treated as a cancellation.

Before starting you studies:

Refund of boarding fee before the start of a semester depends on when you cancel your admission.


Pathway Intensive English Campus (Summer):

  • If you cancel your admission before 30 June, you are eligible for full refund of the boarding fee.
  • If you cancel your admission between 1 July and the official start of the Pathway Summer course, you are eligible for 37% refund of the boarding fee.
  • If you cancel your admission after the start of the course, you are not eligible for any refund of the boarding fee.

Pathway Semester and Year

  • If you cancel your admission before 31 July (autumn programme start) or 31 December (spring programme start), you are eligible for full refund of the boarding fee.
  • If you cancel your admission between 1 Aug and 30 September (autumn programme start) or between 31 December and 28 February (spring programme start), you are eligible for 73% refund.


Rejection on Residence permit application:

This constitutes a special reason and will be reviewed as such. If you receive (and submit) the rejection before the official start of the studies, full refund of the boarding fee could be granted. If you receive a rejection after the official start of the studies and you have registered and been able to start the studies online, Jönköping University Enterprise will make an individual decision on potential partial refund of the boarding fee.

Not arriving or contacting us:

  • If you have not contacted Pathway Admissions before the official start of the studies (if you have trouble arriving on time), not taken part in the mandatory roll call, or notified Pathway Admissions that you want to cancel your admission, you are not eligible for any refund of the boarding fee.


After starting you studies (online or on-campus participation):

Refund of boarding fee after the start of a semester depends on when you drop-out from your studies.


Pathway Intensive English Campus (Summer):

  • If you drop out after the official start of the studies, you are not eligible for any refund of the boarding fee.

Pathway Semester and Year:

  • If you drop out before 30 September (autumn programme start) or 28 February (spring programme start), you are eligible for 73% refund of the boarding fee with a deduction of the Student Union Fee.
  • If you drop out after 30 September or 28 February, you are not eligible for any refund of the boarding fee.

If you change your fee status from fee-paying to non-fee paying after being admitted and before the due date on your invoice, you must contact the admissions at Jönköping University to be re-assessed.

If you receive a residence permit for reasons other than study after you have paid the first instalment of the programme tuition fee, you can apply for a re-assessment concerning the next semester, never retroactively.

You will not be eligible for refund of any fees already paid.

 

If you apply for a work permit when the current study permit is about to expire, you must have received the decision from the Migration Agency before the start of the new semester, the work permit must be valid from before the start of the new semester, AND you must have submitted a copy of the decision to admissions.office@ju.se (see Examples 2 and 3).

 

If you receive a work permit or a permit as a family member of a person with work permit after a new semester has started, you must submit the decision to admissions.office@ju.se for an assessment. Any change in the fee-paying status at the university will start the following semester as the change will not be retroactively.
You will not be eligible for refund of any fees already paid.

Not paying the tuition fee instalments in time has consequences:

  • If you do not pay the tuition fee instalments according to the payment plan, you will be suspended from all studies at Jönköping University as of the first day of the new semester.
    The only way to lift the suspension is to pay the outstanding tuition fee instalments. Each new semester that starts after the suspension will increase the number of outstanding tuition fee instalments that must be paid to lift the suspension.
  • If the instalment is paid in full too late into the new semester, you might not be able to register for all classes, which could have a negative effect on your continuing studies and your residence permit for study could be revoked.
