The research field Addictions and other substance use problems includes several areas. These are some of the more important:
- The importance of social networks and other contextual factors both for the process into and for the process out of misuse and addiction,
- Motivation for change and motivation to receive help in various phases of addiction,
- Studies on instruments for assessment and diagnostics — their metrical properties and function, and their role in treatment planning.
- Studies on treatment and social support to persons with misuse and dependence and various complicating problems — outcome and effect as well as quality and experiences from professional and users perspectives.
