Excellent conditions exist for a powerful, long-term and stable cooperation. The areas of cooperation are bachelor´s program, master´s program, specialist education for dentists, doctoral education and patient-related research.

Research

There are three traditionally strong research areas. The first area is child and youth, where the focus is on diagnostics, treatment and prevention. The second area is adults and older people, with strong ties to epidemiology and public health, interdisciplinary oral rehabilitation and prevention. The third is disabilities and oral health.

Competition

Research program activities have demonstrated clear developmental potential in several areas in recent years. The master´s program in oral health (one year and two years, respectively) has been established. Doctoral education in the area of oral health is held at the School of Health and Welfare. The School of Health and Welfare is one of the top five institutions in Sweden that offer doctoral education in oral health science. In 2010, ten scientific papers were published and two doctoral thesis (PhD) were defended. Furthermore, one chapter in a textbook was published.

Cooperation between the School of Health and Welfare and the Institute for Postgraduate Dental Education in Jönköping aims to create a strong identity with a clear focus on basic and clinical research. Nationally, OI is an asset to odontological research. It is of enormous importance, given that the national research program needs reinforcement to be competitive internationally.

Cooperation

The School of Health and Welfare and the Institute for Postgraduate Dental Education in Jönköping are joined together in the Centre for Oral Health. The centre has several national and international cooperation partners in research development and education. In interdisciplinary oral rehabilitation, OI serves a number of private companies in the biotech industry.

Development opportunities

In the next few years, the research area has an important goal to become a national odontological centre for clinical and health science research, and for education on multiple levels.
