Annette Hill, new professor at HLK

Since August, Annette Hill is Professor of Media and Communication Studies (MKV) at the School of Education and Communication (HLK) at Jönköping University (JU). Annette will work with high quality scientific research and education with a special focus on internationalization. On 21 November, a ‘professor’s introduction’ for Annette will be held.

Annette Hill started her position at HLK in August. Before, she has worked as a Professor and Head of Research at the University of Westminster in the UK, responsible for leading research and postgraduate education in media, art, and design among other things. She has also worked at Lund University.

Annette's own work focuses on media audiences, with interests in civic engagement and sustainable democracy, everyday life, genres, production studies, and viewer cultures. She is the author of ten books.

On 21 November at 15:00-16:30 (Hb221 and on floor 4) there will be a ‘professor’s introduction’ at HLK for Annette Hill. She will talk about her research, there will be a mingle and Q&A session.

“There are a lot of exciting things going on. I am happy to work with Gustav Persson, Assistant Professor of MKV at HLK and Mahama Tawat, Assistant Professor of Social Sciences at HLK, in the project “Fostering inclusion: Migrants, action competence and social justice in the Citizen Engagement Lab” (2024-25) funded by EduCom. Furthermore, next year, MKV will host the annual conference of the Swedish Association for Media and Communication Research (FSMK). Annette thinks that the first time at JU and HLK has been very good and looks forward to all the exciting things to come.

“I like the inclusive environment. There are some strong scholars from all over the world working in the area of media and communications, on topics that really matter for critical engagement with media, culture, and society," says Annette Hill.
