The Media, Management and Transformation Centre (MMTC) at Jönköping International Business School (JIBS) have launched a new podcast series that brings academics and practitioners together to talk about the key issues involved in transitioning to a circular economy.

The new podcast series – Sustainable Business Talks – brings together academics from various fields of research on social innovation and sustainability, and practitioners from sustainability-oriented companies, to discuss the major challenges and future opportunities on moving over to a circular economy.

One focus of the podcast looks at what kinds of social innovations in addition to new technology will be needed to encourage more sustainable consumer behaviour.

What is a circular economy?

A circular economy is a departure from the linear economic model that is based on a take-make-consume-throw away pattern. Rather it is a model of production and consumption which involves reducing waste to a minimum. When a product reaches the end of its life, its materials are kept within the economy wherever possible. These can be productively used again and again, thereby creating further value. (source: European Parliament)

The podcast is hosted by Dr Ulla Saari External link, opens in new window., Assistant Professor of Sustainable Business at JIBS and member of MMTC. She explains the main aims of the podcast:

“The aim is to informally discuss how different companies are transforming their strategies and striving to support and implement social innovation. What do they need to consider when developing their business models, processes, products and services? It’s also our aim to inspire business developers in companies to further develop more sustainable business ideas and promote social innovation. Along the way, we hope to discover practically relevant research questions that will help us academics to focus on the key issues in transitioning to the circular economy.”
